On a chilly senior night at Bill Castle Field, Lakeland clinched their 21-district title against Ridge Community High School, 41-7.

With 2:53 remaining in the first quarter, Raheeme Dumas ran the ball 22-yards into the end zone on a quarterback keeper, giving Lakeland the lead 7-0. Taylor Placides followed up the next possession, running the ball 8-yards with 9:43 on the clock to bring the score to 14-0. The Naughts’ would score again with 5:14 remaining in the first half. Forrest Cunningham carried the ball 2-yards to finish the Naughts’ 5-play drive. “Our running game’s been the best it’s been all year,” Placides said, who would score again on a 6-yard carry with 1:47 remaining in the half. The score followed a 4-play 46-yard drive by the Dreadnaughts to bring the score to 28-0.

On their first possession of the second half, after John Madden intercepted a Ridge Community pass on the LHS 40 yard line, Cunningham would score again on a 3-yard carry to finish the drive with 7:31 remaining in the quarter. Dumas would ring up the last touchdown on a 1-yard quarterback keeper with 11:44 remaining in the game. Ridge would be the last to put points on the board with 2:00 remaining in the half on a quarterback keeper.

Lakeland had 364 total yards offense for the night compared to Ridge’s 128. Placides lead rushing with 188 yards on 20 attempts. Lakeland controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. “Our team showed up to play—Offense pulled it all together to make plays and defense stopped them,” Matt Bowden said. Kicker Caleb Hough went 5 for 6 on extra point attempts.

With the win, Lakeland gets home field advantage for the first round of the play-offs. Lakeland hosts cross-town rivals, the Kathleen Red Devils, next week.
