Coming into the game against Sebring, Lakeland could secure another outright Class 5A, District 6 title with a victory.
The game was close… for the first half. The Dreadnaughts held a 7-point lead when the third quarter began. Lakeland scored a touchdown in the third quarter and reached the end zone twice in the fourth to secure the blowout victory by a 27-point margin.
The Dreadnaughts relied on their punishing ground game which pounded the Blue Streaks into submission. Lakeland utilized a stable of five (5) ballcarriers to amass 273 yards rushing, the most by the Dreadnaughts this season. Ahnarri Cooper (RB) led the way by rushing for 119 yards on 18 carries; a new career high in yards for the sophomore. Ja’darious Dobie (RB) added eight (8) carries for 71 yards and a touchdown. Steward Butler (RB) rushed three (3) times for a whopping 16-yard average. Kevin Hendrix (RB) contributed with two (2) carries for 22 yards and a score. Kelin Hendrix (QB), relied on his legs more than his arm, rushing nine (9) times for 13 yards; he visited the end zone three (3) times.
The Lakeland passing game was not a focus on offense, totaling 78 yards. Cameron Fuse (WR) had one (1) reception for 41 yards. Joseph Howard (TE) added one (1) catch for 37 yards.
The Dreadnaught defense was its usual strong self. Lakeland held the Blue Streaks to a lone touchdown in the second quarter.
Lakeland will host a second team known as the Rams this season when Specially Fit Academy visits Bryant Stadium on October 17th. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM. The Rams are 6- 2, most recently whipping Gainesville P.K. Yonge, 50-7.
