The Great American Rivalry Series came to Bryant Stadium to highlight the contest between Lakeland and Kathleen. First played in 1964, this contest has developed into a one-sided affair with the Dreadnaughts now owning a dominating 48-13 series lead over the Red Devils.
The 2025 contest stayed true to form as Lakeland blew the game open early. The Dreadnaughts took a 16-0 lead in the first quarter and added another 14 points before halftime. A third quarter score increased the lead to 37-0 and instituted a running clock. In the fourth quarter, Lakeland added a final score, as Kathleen also reached the end zone, to flame the Red Devils by a 38-point margin.
Lakeland relied on its running game to pound Kathleen into the Bryant Stadium turf. The Dreadnaughts amassed 210 yards rushing and three (3) touchdowns. Kevin Hendrix (RB) kickstarted the rushing attack with a 43-yard run on Lakeland’s second offensive play from scrimmage. Hendrix finished the night with four (4) carries for 73 yards; a fantastic 18.3 yards per carry. Steward Butler (RB) also contributed by carrying the football twice for 34 yards and a touchdown; an impressive 17 yards per carry. Ahnarri Cooper (RB) led Lakeland by rushing four (4) times for 95 yards and two (2) trips to the end zone; a PlayStation type 23.8 yards per carry.
The Dreadnaughts’ passing game had a place in the game plan to beat the Red Devils. Kelin Hendrix (QB) completed 9 of 14 passes for 114 yards and three (3) touchdowns. Joseph Howard (WR), Jasper Hebel (TE) and Cameron Fuse (WR) spread the touchdown wealth, each reaching pay dirt once. Howard led all Lakeland players with three (3) catches for 44 yards.
Lakeland kept Kathleen out of sync on offense. The Dreadnaughts held the Red Devils to 177 yards of total offense, including 75 yards passing and 102 yards rushing. Ashton Frazier (QB) went 7 of 23 passing for a low 30.4% completion rate with a touchdown and an interception.
Lakeland will end the regular season against Orlando First Academy at Bryant Stadium on Halloween, October 31st. Kickoff is 7:30 PM. The Royals are 4-5, most recently losing to the Hun Raiders (Princeton, New Jersey), 31-14.
