The final score gives the impression that the battle between the Lakeland Dreadnaughts and Lake Mary Rams was not close. That contradicts the truth.
Gridlocked at a 13-13 tie at the end of the third quarter, the Dreadnaughts embarked on a 19-point scoring furry to secure victory in their home opener at Bryant Stadium on September 5th.
To kickstart the Lakeland offense, Kelin Hendrix (QB) took the reins and had a dominating performance. He led the Dreadnaughts with 11 completions on 20 passing attempts for 237 yards and two touchdowns, as well as eight carries for 102 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Both rushing touchdowns occurred in the pivotal fourth quarter, when Hendrix sped toward the end zone for scores of 59 yards and 21 yards.
Other Dreadnaughts who contributed to the Lakeland victory included Jasper Hebel (TE) who snagged a 22-yard touchdown reception, and Joseph Howard (WR) who raced 61 yards after the catch for another score in the first half. Jerry Thomas (WR) led all Lakeland receivers with 93 yards. Lakeland amassed 415 yards of total offense on the night.
Even facing Notre Dame commitment, Noah Grubbs (QB), the Dreadnaughts played well on defense holding the Rams to two field goals and a lone touchdown.
The Dreadnaughts now have a bye week. Lakeland will travel to Booker T. Washington (Miami) to face the Tornadoes on September 19th. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM (EST). The Tornadoes are winless this season.
