Inclement weather delayed last year’s contest at Bryant Stadium before Lakeland bested Booker T. Washington (Miami) by 35 points, 48-13.
The Dreadnaughts traveled to Miami last Friday for the rematch and quickly reduced the threat of the Tornadoes to a puff of wind.
Lakeland, who is averaging surrendering 11 points per game, had a dominant defensive performance to produce its first shut-out of the season at Traz Powell Stadium.
The Dreadnaughts had a balanced offensive attack that yielded 292 yards of total offense, 154 yards passing and 138 yards rushing. Kelin Hendrix (QB) led Lakeland’s passing attack by completing nine (9) of 17 throws for 131 yards and a touchdown. Caleb McFarlane (QB) also saw game action and completed two (2) of three (3) passes for 23 yards a score. Ahnarri Cooper (RB) led Lakeland’s ground game by rushing six (6) times for 85 yards, a fantastic 14.2 yards per carry, and a touchdown. Two players named Hendrix also scored rushing touchdowns, including Kelin (QB) who had a score and Kevin (RB) who contributed two (2) scores.
The win improves Lakeland to 3-1, while Booker T. Washington remains winless at 0-5.
