Lakeland Weathers Armwood for 13-6 Victory.
Friday Night Lights has returned to Bryant Stadium.
The Dreadnaughts began their 2022 football season on August 19th against the Armwood Hawks in the Kick-Off Classic. Though a preseason game, the outcome mattered to both schools, each having won multiple state championships in their storied histories.
Lakeland raced to a 13-0 lead on two big plays by the Dreadnaught offense. On the second drive of the night, RB Markel Johnson ran off right tackle dashing 43 yards to the end zone giving the Dreadnaughts an early 6-0 lead in the first quarter. WR Tyler Williams, continued the scoring on the first play of the second quarter, taking a pass from QB Zach Pleuss near the line of scrimmage and racing 64 yards for a touchdown.
Armwood cut the scoring deficit when QB Murdolph Jones (4-of-6, 44 yards) scored on a three-yard keeper later in the second quarter.
Both defenses disrupted offensive efficiency for their opponent.
Lakeland allowed just 61 total yards and dominated the line of scrimmage. Armwood RB Girard Pringle had nine carries for a mere 26 yards. The Dreadnaughts also had three sacks.
The Hawks’ defense swarmed QB Pleuss resulting in him passing for two completions in six attempts for 75 yards, including a touchdown and an interception.
Mother Nature shortened the contest to an end in the second quarter. The game concluded with 5:07 left before halftime.
The Dreadnaughts travel to Jack White Stadium to face the Clearwater High School Tornadoes next Friday, August 26th.
