Dreadnaughts Win Revolution Over Patriots, 21-16.

Lakeland and American Heritage met at Bryant Stadium on Friday in a matchup between two programs with extensive championship histories. American Heritage has earned seven state titles, while Lakeland has secured nine. The game, however, unfolded as a series of turnovers, penalties, and stalled drives for both teams.

The decisive moment arrived with less than one minute remaining. Matwoin Bryant (DB) intercepted Neiman Lawrence (QB), ending the Patriots’ final possession and securing what may be Lakeland’s most significant regular‑season victory under head coach Marvin Frazier.

Lakeland’s win positions the Dreadnaughts for a possible rise into the MaxPreps top eight and keeps them firmly in contention for an Open Division playoff berth in Florida. It also provides a clear, measurable victory over a highly regarded opponent.

Lakeland allowed 291 total yards, yet American Heritage produced only one sustained touchdown drive. The Patriots’ first score came on a short field following a lengthy interception return. Their second touchdown occurred on a rapid three‑play, 59‑yard possession that ended with Neiman Lawrence’s 17‑yard pass to Trae Proctor (WR). It was the only drive that Lakeland failed to stop.

Neiman Lawrence completed 14 of 29 passes for 156 yards. Lakeland’s defense countered with interceptions by Chop Black (DB) and Matwoin Bryant, a fumble recovery, and a blocked extra point by Deonte Fielder, Jr. (DB).

Lakeland relied heavily on its ground game, and the combination of Xavion Mitchell (RB) and Steward Butler (RB) proved effective. Xavion Mitchell gained 152 yards on 18 carries, including a 36‑yard touchdown run that gave Lakeland the lead with 5:15 remaining. Stewart Butler added 49 yards on nine carries, contributing to the team’s total of 245 rushing yards.

Kelin Hendrix (QB) endured a difficult first half, completing 3 of 7 passes for 46 yards with three interceptions. He responded with composure in the second half, completing 7 of 9 passes for 61 yards. He finished with 107 passing yards and 42 rushing yards.

Lakeland will remain at Bryant Stadium for its September 25th matchup with the Auburndale Bloodhounds. Auburndale snuffed out Kathleen 27–9 last Friday. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM.
