The Lakeland Dreadnaughts extended their strong season run on Friday night with a dominant 49–14 victory over the Auburndale Bloodhounds at Bryant Stadium.
Lakeland delivered its highest scoring performance of the season, striking early and building an insurmountable lead. The Dreadnaughts did not score in the second half and still won by a 35‑point margin. They moved ahead 21–7 after the first quarter, then piled on 28 more points before halftime, which initiated a running clock in the second half.
The Dreadnaughts relied on a deep group of ball carriers to wear down Auburndale, producing four rushing touchdowns from four different players. Xavion Mitchell (RB) scored from four yards out, Ahnarri Cooper (RB) added a five‑yard run, Steward Butler (RB) broke free for a 25‑yard touchdown, and Matwoin Bryant (RB) powered in from one yard.
Lakeland also attacked through the air behind quarterback Kelin Hendrix (QB). Wide receivers Cam Fuse (WR) and Rashard Kelley (WR) each secured touchdown receptions to complete the offensive surge.
The win marked another strong showing for a Lakeland team that has responded impressively since its double‑overtime loss to Venice. The Dreadnaughts have now won three consecutive contests, defeating Osceola 40–6; toppling defending back‑to‑back Class 4A state champion American Heritage, 21–16; and overpowering Auburndale, 49–14.
Lakeland improved to 4–1 overall and 2–0 in district competition, and the program has now won 15 of its last 18 games dating back to last season.
The victory also keeps Lakeland in a strong position within Class 5A‑District 6. Entering the week, the Dreadnaughts were tied among the district leaders.
Lakeland will remain at home next week to host Strong Faith Athletics Academy at Bryant Stadium. The Rams enter the matchup at 2–4. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
