The Lakeland Dreadnaughts kicked off the regular season with an impressive 49-0 victory against the (Jacksonville) Ed White Commanders. After a slow start, the offense turned it on with a 21 point second quarter and never let up. AJ Davis ran for 178 yards and scored 2 TDs, Holden Hotchkiss threw for 152 yards and 2 TDs, and James Robinson caught 6 passes for 115 yards and 1 TD. The backups got some well deserved playing time and added to the lead. Led by quarterback Daquan Devine and Reggie Covington, both adding touchdowns of their own.
Meanwhile, the stingy Dreadnaught defense held the Ed White Commanders to only 4 first downs, -3 rushing yards on 24 attempts, and 6 passing yards for 11 total yards on offense.
The victory over Ed White brought a historic milestone to the Lakeland program, giving Coach Bill Castle his 400th victory making him one of the all-time winningest high school football coaches in the state and the nation. After the game, Lakeland Mayor Howard Wiggs presented Coach Castle with a key to the city.
