The Lakeland Football Booster Club held its weekly meeting Monday night, September 3rd with guest speaker Congressman Dennis Ross present to give a speech.
“For me, it’s a real pleasure to be here this evening,” Ross said, he is an alumni of LHS, “this is like a home week for me.” Ross spoke of the current economic situation and how the two nominated candidates for presidency would change the economy and how they would affect the nation.
Among topics discussed were the Jumbotron; the Hazel Haley Harbor, which is being resurrected this season; and Coach Bill Castle’s impressive statistics in his 36-years of work with Lakeland High School athletes.
Bob Whitehead and Rob Myers both spoke of Castles statics as a coach. He has had 42 consecutive wins in the regular season since the team’s loss to the Kissimmee Kowboys in 2009.
The boosters also honored Coach George Williams, who was recognized at the St. Cloud game on Friday night, but due to technical problems, was recognized at the meeting as well. Williams has been a volunteer coach with LHS for 18 years. “Coach George is like my right hand man,” Castle said. Williams works as the teams Chaplin and the “get back” coach.
